It’s that time again! Anime Expo is next week! Back in March, when I was applying for press access to Anime Expo – I wrote this article for AXS about it and ended up getting a press pass right away! However, now I’m not writing for AXS, so anything I write about will just be here unless something else happens to turn up. I don’t really know any press outlets that want coverage of Anime Expo, but I have some new cameras to try out so I’ll try to get a lot more photos this year.
I am still pretty excited about digital cameras even though they’ve largely been replaced by cell phones. The two I have are best for long distance and low light photos, and my Panasonic ZS40 even has a remote control via bluetooth app on iOS! The other one is a Sony RX100 II, which is a series I’ve read so much hype about – I decided to try it for myself. Also, back in March, I returned to my job at Metro LA, where I’ve started learning map related things like Google Fusion Tables for their Farmers’ Market map (and a newer one in the development stage). After all the excitement of the Gold and Expo Line extension openings, things have calmed down a bit which has made picking up new skills a little easier. I have some credit for General Assembly classes through work, but I’m not sure what to use it for.
I am kind of interested in learning app development, but I have no idea what type of app hasn’t been done and no one really needs another Flappy Bird game. Though since I don’t know anything about it, I just need the basics to start. As much as I love using apps, there is an over saturation of apps and once it gets to that point, you really just need to figure out what’s most useful.

SPJA unveils lineup for Anime Expo’s 25th Event
Santa Ana, CA – (June 22, 2016) Anime Expo, produced by The Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation (SPJA), presents the 2016 lineup of guests, performers and special events. This year marks the 25th event for Anime Expo, so SPJA is celebrating with a variety of appearances and performances.
Anime Expo 2016 welcomes the world’s first Anisong World Matsuri event with a variety of live music and experiential performances. Electronic pop icon, TeddyLoid will perform a special, live DJ set during the event’s fashion show as well as Lounge 21. Performances will also include J-pop band, Dempagumi.inc for the newly released “Phantom of the Kill,” as well as the group’s hit favorites. The Cowboy Bebop Jazz Cat Experience will introduce an immersive presentation with music, storytelling and visuals celebrating one of the most influential and celebrated anime of all time, Cowboy Bebop.
In the anime world of entertainment, film lovers and audiences can expect never-before-seen exclusives at this year’s convention. AnimeExpo will unveil a variety of world premieres including Makoto Shinkai’s “your name.” and “Phantom of the Kill’s” anime premiere. Additionally, following the announcement of Toonami’s co-production for FLCL, attendees will have the first look at clips from the original series’ season 2. Some of the industry’s top names in film and entertainment will also be available for guest panels including Shoji Kawamori, Kenji Horikawa, Nami Sano, and more.
Gamers and cosplayers will have direct access to parties, demos and panels. Featured guests include Cosplay Senpai participants like Stella Chuu, Vampy Bit Me and J. Hart as well as video game creators like Koji Igarashi (Castlevania, Bloodstained), Keiji Inafune (Mega Man) and Kotaro Uchikoshi (Zero Escape). Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithfulness will also host their exclusive launch party following the release dates. Through the direction of 6 Japanese companies, “ANISONG WORLD MATSURI” is an Animation/ANISONG event that will take place on July 2nd and July 3rd jointly with ANIME EXPO 2016.
